Dony Evarenali, 2017, NIT: 50134809. N, ‘’The Impact of Jack Hydraulic’s Leakage on Hatch Cover to the Effectiveness of Loading and Unloading Process on MV. Energy Midas”, Essay of Nautical Department, Diploma IV Program, Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Semarang, 1st guide: Capt. I Kadek Laju, S.H., M.M., M.Mar., 2nd guide: Tri Kismantoro, M.M Jack Hydraulic on hatch cover is one of the tools which has an extremely vital role for a bulk carrier vessel, especially for bulk carrier vessel with a siderolling type of its hatch cover. Jack hydraulic functionate to lift the wheel up on a hatch cover so that the wheel can be parallel with the line and the hatch cover can be opened. Although the work system of jack hydraulic is merely simple, but if it is leaked, it will create a big impact. One of the impact caused by the leakage of jack hydraulic is that the loading and discharging process will be delayed due to the hatch cover cannot be opened perfectly. Even company and charterer run into disadvantage, both time and material. While the ship is in Boryeong port , South Korea , there are a lot of jack hydraulic’s leakage on the hatch cover due to cold season . And the discharging process was delayed for 2 days. Therefore, observation has to be done for the influence of jack hydaulic’s leakage on the hatch cover towards the effectiveness of loading and discharging in MV. Energy Midas. The aim of this observation is to know about the main cause of the jack hydraulic’s leakage on the hatch cover in MV. Energy Midas. Beside that , this observation aims to know about the effort to prevent the jack hydraulic’s leakage on its hatch cover, in order to make the loading discharging process runs well. This observation use the descriptive method by describing in detail when the implementation of the jack hydraulic is delayed do the the leakage of jack hydraulic on the hatch cover in MV. Energy Midas. In determining the problem priority to be done , the observer use USG (Urgency, Seriousness, Growth) method by giving 1-5 score toward the cause of the leakage of jack hydraulic on the hatch cover in MV. Energy Midas. The result of the observation shows that the cause of jack hydraulic’s leakage on the hatch cover in MV. Energy Midas is the lack of regular checks and maintenance when opening the hatch cover that is not suitable with the procedure and the replacement of the spare part that has not been done on the jack hydaulic’s component that is not worth anymore. The effort to prevent the leakage of jack hydraulic on the hatch cover is to check and maintain regularly and periodically and by giving instruction to the crew about the operation while opening the hatch cover and replacing the component of the not feasible jack hydraulic .
