Abstract

Damai Sejatera II thesis Nautical courses, Diploma IV, Polytechnic Sailing Science Advisor: (I)Dr.Capt.H.Sahabuddin Sunusi, M.T., M.Mar. (II) H.Amad Narto, M.Pd., M.Mar.E. Work accident is an event that is clearly undesirable and often unpredictable which can cause loss of good time, possessions, or fatalities. Each has a cause and the cause of the accident can be prevented or reduced through various measures. One effort to minimize workplace accidents is to use personal protective equipment (PPE). At the time of the author followed the practice of the sea in M.V. Damai Sejahtera II still many crew boat less aware of the importance of the use of personal protective equipment. Some is why, among others: (a) lack of discipline of the crew, (b)lack of standard operating procedures understood in the works (c) lack of self safety on board (d) lack of familirization the crew of the importance of the use of personal protective equipment. To minimize the occurrence of occupational accidents in M.V. Damai Sejahtera II do some strategies, namely (a)conducted familiarization and discussions about the events related accidents and the use of PPE(b)Disseminating the use of personal protective equipment, (c)implemented a more intense security of the use of PPE The use of personal protective equipment has several advantages, among others: (a) the security of guaranteed employment, (b) minimize work accidents, and (c) improved performance and productivity.
