Abstract

Fandi Prasetyo, 2018, NIT : 51145179 N, “Pencegahan polusi di laut dengan garbage management plan di atas kapal MV Energy Midas”, Minithesis Nautical Department, Diploma IV Program, Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Semarang, Mentor I Capt. Arika Palapa.Msi.,M.Mar, Mentor II : Adi Oktavianto,ST,MM The existance of waste is unavoidable in every vessel, wastes will always increase each day and in order to reduce this some waste must be thrown overboard. Problems occured is waste handling not according to rules written in MARPOL 73/78 in Annex V will cause pollution that may harmful for sea environment. Based on that writer construct research questions are :1). Factors that need to be noticed to prevent sea pollution onboard MV Energy Midas using Garbage Management Plan. 2). How the strategies used to prevent sea pollution by applying Garbage Management Plan onboard MV Energy Midas used in making of research report and as base to solve problems existing in research process. Analysis techniques used by researcher to explain problems are Fishbone method to elaborate factor af observed objects whic is lackness of knowledge and skills of the vessel’s crew, lackness of existing equipment maintenance, availability of garbage record book that was not recorded based on the real condition and insufficient support from company to supply tools of garbage management plan and SWOT method to get any explanation that must be noticed as materials to solve problems in research object. The result of questionnaire stated there are several important factor as follows, good teamwork and crew’s skills knowledge of the crews, and support from the company. Thus obtained SO (Strength-Opportunity) strategy to solve problems, one of the exaple is by good teamwork and skill of crews and routine inspection will achieved positive result to maximize every activities of garbage management plan. The result of the research is to implementation of garbage management will be optimum if good teamwork and crews skills are maintained, and also routine training are held, safety meeting to improve crew’s knowledge about garbage management plan and the company give continuous support in garbage management plan process by facilitate necessary tools to support the implementation.
