Abstract

Hilda Emeraldo Ahmad Adiarsa, 2018, 51145119 N, “Improvement safety of ship crews in the use of personal protective equipment in MT. B. SUN” , Nautical Thesis, Diploma IV Program, Semarang Merchant Marine Polytechni Material Adviser ( I ) : Capt. H. Suherman M.Mar. and as Methodologi and Writing Adviser ( II ) : R.A.J Susilo Hadi Wibowo, S IP. MM. Safety in work is an effort to create a safe work environment. Regardless of the safety factor, our work will encounter problems that can cause an accident that can result in loss of life, loss of property and the environment. This study aims to determine the factors that cause less than optimal use of personal protective equipment by ABK and to know what efforts should be made so that the safety of ABK can improve The theoretical basis used in this thesis is based on the Health and Safety Executive guidelines in his book, the third edition of Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations (PPE) in 2015, namely the preparation theory of personal protective equipment, implementation, obstacles encountered and efforts made to overcome the obstacles that occur. Also accompanied by the framework that underlies the thesis writing. This study uses the Fishbone Method to identify and organize the causes that arise and their root causes. Then using the ultrasound method (Urgency, Seriousness, Growth) to determine the level of urgency, seriousness and development of issues on a scale of 1-5. From the research it was found that: 1) Preparation for the use of personal protective equipment goes badly. 2) Implementation of the use of personal protective equipment does not run optimally. 3) Constraints that occur in the use of personal protective equipment a) Lack of knowledge of the crew of the ship against the correct procedure for the use of personal protective equipment b) Lack of supervision c) Limited equipment for personal protective equipment. 4) The efforts carried out are with good cooperation between the ship and shipping companies. Based on the results of observations and analysis, the authors conclude that the knowledge of the crew and laborers regarding work safety regulations is still lacking. Efforts that can be made to improve work safety include improving work management, checking work readiness and using good and correct personal protective equipment and monitoring while working.
