Abstract

ABSTRACT Ramadhan, Fachrul Adetyantoko , 2023, 551811226677 T, “Efforts to Improve the Performance of Inert Gas Generator to Improve Gas Humidity for the Smoothness of Loading and Unloading Processes on MT Prima XP”. Thesis. Diploma IV Program, Technical Study Program, Semarang Merchant Marine Polytechnic, Supervisor I: H. Mustholiq, MM, M.Mar.E, Supervisor II: Dr. Latifa Ika Sari, S.Psi, S.Pd, M.Pd A tanker ship is a ship designed specifically to transport cargo in the form of liquids. Tanker ships have different types according to the cargo they carry. Tanker ships are specially designed to have advanced safety systems for the safety of the ship's crew. Usually, tanker ships that have advanced safety systems, one of which uses an inert gas generator (IGG). The purpose of this research is to determine the cause of the combustion failure on the inert gas generator on MT. Prima XP, as well as how to balance the oxygen content on MT. Prima XP. This This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The data source uses source triangulation and techniques. The data collection technique used in this research is interview, observation, and documentation. The combination of fishbone diagram and SHEL (Software, Hardware, Environment, Liveware) is one of the data analysis techniques. The research concluded that the cause of the combustion failure on the inert gas generator on MT. Prima XP is the malfunction of the solenoid valve, electrode, and nozzle, and the clogging of dirt on the scrubber tower. And the ways to balance oxygen content on MT. Prima XP is by adjusting the air valve and fuel located next to the inert gas generator, reducing flow sampling, cleaning the water in the gas pipeline, calibrating the oxygen analyzer, and closing the air capacity valve located on the IGG instrument air inlet. Based on these findings, the researcher recommends that the company equip the equipment and spare parts used for maintenance and repair of the inert gas generator on the ship, conduct regular inspections on the ship, and provide training and socialization to improve the crew's understanding of the working system of the inert gas system using an inert gas generator.
