Abstract

Ontari” Engineering Studies program thesis, Diploma IV Program, Merchant Marine Polytechnic Semarang, Supervisor 1 : H.Suwondo, M.M, M.Mar.E, Supervisor 2 : Capt. Budi Mantoro, M, Si., M.Mar Serves as auxiliary boiler installations with steam which is used as a heater or a heater for fuel, or for the purposes of the kitchen as well as a driving force. But at the time of operation is often problematic and it is also very annoying when the operation of the vessel itself. It often fails to combustion or flame failure causes disruption and operational performance of the boiler on board. Thus the authors formulate the problem, 1) Factors that cause the occurrence of flame failure on the main burner boiler, 2) Impact of the flame failure on the main operational boiler on board, 3) Controls to reduce the risk of flame failure on the main burner. The method used by the writer is descriptive research methodology was qualitative method through HAZOP (Hazard Operability) to illustrate and describe the object under study as well as the principles derived from the theories related to the topics discussed, while also using the approach in the field that have been implemented by way directly involved in maintenance and repair and operational safety of the boiler system during cruise. Based on the results of research by the author about the identification of the causes of failure in the main burner flame is the ignition system that affects the formation of fire, electrode spacing with the nozzle tip does not fit at the time of ignition. Meanwhile, to overcome the problem of the occurrence of failure in the main burner flame should do routine maintenance on the boiler combustion system, keeping the electrode spacing with a nozzle in accordance with guidance manuals that have been determined by the maker.
