Abstract
ABSTRACT This research focuses on developing a new instructional model for Maritime English education, using the Maritime English Reconstruction (MER) approach, specifically designed for Nautical Diploma students. Maritime English is a specialized field of English language learning that is essential for effective communication and safety in the maritime industry. Traditional English teaching methods may not fully meet the unique linguistic and communication needs of maritime professionals, especially those pursuing a Diploma in Nautical. The Maritime English Reconstruction (MER) approach combines specialized terminology, communication skills, and specialized knowledge relevant to the maritime field. This research aims to develop an innovative instructional model that integrates the MER approach, thereby increasing the proficiency of Nautical Diploma students in using English effectively in their workplace. The methodology of this study involves the systematic design and implementation of a MER-based curriculum for Nautical Diploma students, which incorporates elements such as maritime terminology, communication scenarios, and real-world simulations. Evaluation and feedback mechanisms will be integrated to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the developed model. The study also considered the impact of the MER approach on learners' overall language skills, confidence, and competence in Maritime English, with data analysis conducted using the T-test method. The results of the difference analysis must use the assumption of equal assumed. The value of t at equal variance assumed is 92% with a probability of significance. So it can be concluded that showing maritime terminology, communication scenarios, and real-world simulations on the language skills, confidence, and overall competence of learners in Maritime English (significantly different) from learning using previous methods that have been used. Expected from this research includes the development of a comprehensive Maritime English learning model specifically designed for Nautical Diploma students. In addition, data analysis using the T-test method will provide insight into the effectiveness of the MER approach in improving the language skills and confidence of Nautical Diploma students. This research is poised to make a valuable contribution to the field of Maritime English education for Nautical Diploma students by providing a practical and innovative model for language acquisition tailored to their needs. In addition, this research offers promising avenues for further research and development in the specific field of language teaching methodologies in the nautical field.
