Abstract
Turbocharger is the one of auxiliary engine that used to raise up the intake air volume into combustion chamber. The total of air intake volume can be look from the pressure and temperature of scaving air. In case the writer want to describe and make an identification the cause of surging that caused by un-maximal combustion. The writer use descriptive method with date analytic of urgency, seriously and growth, is analytic technique with take the highest assessment of priority and specific problem and also use the comparison from the each problem from the subject’s that connected with the trouble can be cause the surging turbocharger. Surging is periodic breakdown of air supply in turbocharger. There is so many things can be cause of surging, one of out several is because un-maximal combustion and make exhaust gas temperature is raise up, as be happened in MV. Meratus Medan 3 that un-maximal combustion is caused because there is lubricating oil puddle from crankcase into scavenging air trunk, it’s happened because there is leakage between the gap of piston rod stuffing box ring with the piston rod. For handling a surging, so need to handle the main trouble, its with make a routine maintenance and also change the piston rod stuffing box ring on time use the right procedure, and to prevent the lubrication oil puddle is disturbing scaving air so we need to drain scaving air trunk with periodically when main engine is operate.
